Jockey Jorge Chavez was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, Fla. after falling off his horse, Sweet Zeena, in the 12th and final race at Calder on Monday, the final day of the 2005-2006 Tropical at Calder season.

He suffered a bloody nose and may have sustained shoulder injuries, but was alert and moving when medical personnel arrived to him moments after the fall.

Sweet Zeena took a misstep near the three-eighths pole, causing Chavez to lose his balance and fall from the 3-year-old filly. Sweet Zeena was unharmed.

Chavez was bidding to tie Manoel Cruz in the jockey standings for the meet in the race. He rode three winners earlier on the card to give him 67 victories for the Tropical at Calder meet. Cruz took the title with 68 wins.

The Eclipse Award winning jockey of 1999, Chavez was the leading rider at Calder and Tropical at Calder in 1988.
