All horses shipping onto New York Racing Association properties from Kentucky as of Dec. 31 will be required to be accompanied with a 48-hour Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI), said Rusty Ford of the Kentucky State Veterinarian's office.
Dr. Anthony Verderosa, chief examining veterinarian for the NYRA. conveyed that message by telephone, Ford said. The new restrictions follow positive tests for equine herpesvirus at Turfway Park.
Horses were previously allowed entry onto NYRA properties with a five-day CVI.
In addition to the 48-hour CVI requirement, Verderosa is requiring that individuals shipping to NYRA properties from Turfway Park call for entry approval. Verderosa can be reached on 516/351-5314.
The requirements will remain in effect until further notice.
