Catienus Returns to New York for 2006

Citing "overwhelming demand from New York breeders," Ramsey Farm-owned Catienus   will stand again in the Empire State for the 2006 breeding season. The son of Storm Cat out of Diamond City (by Mr. Prospector) will stand at Highcliff Farm for $6,500 live foal.

"Catienus was one of the most popular stallions in New York last year, breeding a fine book of 110 mares," said Ramsey Farm owner Ken Ramsey. "We are standing two first-year stallions at our Kentucky farm, including a champion, and felt we would do best by Catienus by allowing him to return to Highcliff, which did such a great job managing him last year."

Suzie O'Cain, who manages Highcliff with her husband Dr. C. Lynwood O'Cain, said, "Only two New York stallions got more mares than Catienus last year, and we are getting a lot of calls from horsemen who want to breed to him again. We lobbied hard with Mr. Ramsey...to let him stay in New York, and we are delighted he has agreed to do so."

Catienus was the leading freshman sire of U.S. 2-year-old winners with his first crop, and is one of just three sophomore sires to sire a U.S. Grade I winner this year. He has sired 10 stakes horses, five stakes winners, and progeny which have earned $2.4 million.
