Sir Cat to Chile

Sir Cat, sire of 2005 grade II winners Cativa and Surf Cat, has been sold to stand at Haras Jockey in Chile. The 12-year-old son of Storm Cat formerly stood at Gainesway Farm (Antony Beck, president) near Lexington and shuttled several years to Chile.

A two-time grade II winner, Sir Cat has sired 15 stakes winners and the earners of $9.7 million. Cativa, who got better with age, captured this year's Barbara Fritchie Handicap (gr. II) as a 5-year-old for her first stakes win. Three-year-old Surf Cat won the Swaps Breeders' Cup Stakes (gr. II) this summer. Sir Cat also is the sire of 2005 stakes winners Cat Singer and Jungle Prince.

Sir Cat, who was produced from the Private Account mare Desert Run, made all but his last start for John R. Murrell, winning four stakes for him, including the 1996 National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame Stakes (gr. IIT) at Saratoga. He won the 1998 Appleton Handicap (gr. II) three days into the year for Richard L. Golden and entered stud that year at Gainesway. He retired from racing with seven wins from 14 starts and earnings of $401,185.
