Trainer Bruce Levine Notches 1,000th Victory
With a pair of victories Saturday at Aqueduct, trainer Bruce Levine reached a milestone with 1,000 wins in his career.Levine, 50, saddled the 2-year-old colt Share the World to win the fourth race, a $42,000 maiden special weight for New York breds, as the favorite. He returned to the winner's circle in the seventh race when the 7-5 choice Preminger, ridden by Eibar Coa, won a $44,000 first-level allowance race for state breds at one mile and 70 yards on the inner turf course. Preminger, a 3-year-old gray Forever Silver gelding, went gate to wire to register the win for Chevalier Stable. In the current standings at Aqueduct, Levine is tied with Scott Lake for sixth place with eight victories. He ranks 14th in the nation with 110 victories on the year from 405 starters.The New York native broke in walking hots for John Russell after graduating from high school and went to work as an assistant to John Campo in 1975. He took out his trainer's license in 1979. Levine finished third among New York trainers in 2004 with 80 of his 107 victories during the year coming on the New York circuit. His total purse earnings topped $3.5 million.
