Alkaased, who won the Nov. 27 Japan Cup (Jpn-I) in world-record time, has been retired to stud at Sheikh Mohammed's Darley Japan following Darley's purchase of the 5-year-old son of Kingmambo.Trained by Luca Cumani, Alkaased also scored a major win in this year's Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud (Fr-I). He retired with six wins from 14 starts and earnings of $2,753,191.Alkaased's victory in Tokyo over a truly international field came in a time of 2:22.10 for 2,400 meters came for owner Michael R. Charlton."Alkaased is a very exciting prospect for three reasons: he's a world-record breaker, he's by arguably the world's best stallion, and he's a great looking individual," said John Ferguson, Sheikh Mohammed's bloodstock advisor.Bred in Kentucky by Clovelly Farms, Alkaased is out of the German champion Chesa Plana (by Niniski) and is from a distinguished family of successful horses. His fee will be set at a later date.
