Del Mar Schedules Over $6 Million in Stakes

Del Mar will offer $6,075,000 in stakes money when the San Diego-area track hosts its 62nd summer season of racing. The 43-day meeting opens July 18 and runs through Sept. 5. Highlight of the meeting will be the $1-million Pacific Classic, one of five grade I races scheduled at Del Mar. The Pacific Classic, a 1 1/4-mile event for 3-year-olds and upward, will be run Aug. 19.

Other grade I events are the Ramona Handicap, which this year will be run on the meet's first weekend (Saturday, July 21); the Eddie Read Handicap, on July 28; Del Mar Oaks, Aug. 18; and Del Mar Deutante, Aug. 26. The meet closes with the Del Mar Futurity, a grade II event for 2-year-olds, on Sept. 5.
