Mass Media, Value Plus Retired

Purge, who won the Nov. 26 Hill 'n' Dale Cigar Mile Handicap (gr. I) at Aqueduct, isn't the only one from the race headed off to stud. Mass Media, the runner-up, and another contestant, Value Plus, also have been retired and will enter stud in 2006.

Value Plus, a 4-year-old son of Unbridled's Song, captured this year's Artax Handicap and ran third in the Westchester Handicap (gr. III). His previous stakes efforts came in runner-up finishes in last year's Florida Derby (gr. I) and the 2003 Futurity Stakes (gr. I).

Value Plus was purchased privately before the Cigar Mile by Richard and Audrey Haisfield's NeverTell Farm from Aaron and Marie Jones. Bred in Kentucky by Just the Beginning Farm, Value Plus retired with three wins from 15 starts and earnings of $414,595 while trained by Todd Pletcher. He will enter stud for $10,000 at Audrey Haisfield's Stonewall Farm Stallions near Versailles, Ky.

Value Plus is a half-brother to two stakes winners, including graded winner Roll Hennessy Roll, and is out of stakes winner Roll Over Baby (by Rollin On Over).

Grade I winner Mass Media will enter stud for a fee of $7,500 at John Sikura's Hill 'n' Dale Farms near Lexington. Bred in Florida by Live Oak Stud, Mass Media scored his big win in the Forego Stakes (gr. I) this year at Saratoga.

A 4-year-old son of Touch Gold  , Mass Media won last year's Sport Page Handicap (gr. III) and Fly So Free Stakes and placed in a pair of grade II stakes. Trained first by Cole Norman, then Bobby Frankel, he retired with six wins from 17 starts and earnings of $466,420 for Gary and Mary West. His dam, Sultry Allure (by Forty Niner), is a half-sister to grade I winners and millionaires Sultry Song and Solar Splendor>.
