The breeding shed report on Seattle Slew continues to be "amazing," according to Three Chimneys Farm owner Robert N. Clay on Wednesday. "Five of the six mares to have been checked for pregnancy so far are reported to be in foal," he said.

"His fertility is excellent," said syndicate manager Mickey Taylor. "Actually, the one mare that is not in foal is 19 years old, and so I don't know that we can even blame her failure to conceive totally against Slew."

Among the 17 mares bred to Seattle Slew at the Midway, Ky., farm thus far are the dams of Seattle Slew's champion daughter Surfside and grade I winner Sleep Easy. The 27-year-old stallion is expected to breed a book of 46 mares on shareholder and breeding right holder seasons in 2001.
