Churchill Pick Six Carryover Tops $700,000

Racing fans failed to take down the Pick Six at Churchill Downs for an eighth consecutive day on Thursday and the resulting carryover pool of $701,585 for Friday's racing program is one of the largest in track history.

A parade of long shots in the Pick Six races, which included races 5 through 10 on the Thursday racing card, resulted in a carryover pool for the wager that is the third largest since the Pick Six was introduced at Churchill Downs in 1984. It is also the largest carryover pool ever generated during the track's fall meet.

The carryover into Thursday's Pick Six wagering stood at $247,486, but racing fans on-track and at simulcast outlets throughout the country pumped $748,110 into the wager's pool on Thursday to push the overall total to $995,596. The carryover streak began with the racing program on Nov. 8

Consolation tickets to patrons who selected five of the six winners on Thursday were worth $38,036.

The largest carryover pool in track history was $855,542 on May 6, 2004. That pool consisted of wagering that started on Kentucky Derby and grew over a total of three days. The second largest carryover pool totaled $750,068 that was wagered over eight days heading into June 12, 1993.

The record carryover pool of May 6, 2004 resulted in the largest total Pick Six pool in track history. That pool grew to $2,891,518 in its three-day run.

The largest Pick Six payout in track history was the $1,168,136 collected by a single ticket holder on June 25, 2003.
