Numbers Down Slightly at Keeneland; $92,000 Mare Tops Day

The gross and average dropped slightly at Keeneland Thursday, the second to last day of the November breeding stock sale.

"About the same as last year, the bottom of the market is holding steady," Keeneland sales director Geoffrey Russell said.

With 80 horses withdrawn from the session, it ended early, before 4:30 p.m. On the day, 221 head were sold for $2,554,000, an average of $11,557. The gross was down 7.3% and the average dipped 2.3% from the corresponding session a year ago when 232 were sold for $2,749,200, an average of $11,850. The median remained the same at $8,000.

There were 51 horses listed as not sold Thursday, 18.8% of the horses through the ring. Last year, the RNA rate was 19.7%.

The top price on the day was $92,000 for the mare Unbridled Dream sold by Lakland, agent. By Unbridled's Song out of the L'Emigrant mare Dixie Fine, Unbridled Dream is in foal to During  . She was purchased by M. Lyn Burleson.

Two mares were sold for $75,000 apiece. Ken and Sarah Ramsey bought Waki Affair from Runnymede Farm, agent. The winning daughter of Miswaki is in foal to Bernstein. For the same price, Clarkland Farm purchased Eastside Ballad, another sold as agent by Lakland. By Saint Ballado, Eastside Ballad is in foal to Forest Camp.

The top-priced foal sold Thursday was a filly by Trust N Luck that is the first foal produced from No Small Wonder, by Capote. Consigned as agent by Long Branch Farm, she was purchased by Vinery.
