Edited press release

Racing at Hoosier Park was canceled Wednesday night following the third race due to increasingly poor track conditions. An accident in the first race sent jockey Hector Rosario Jr. to the hospital.

Rosario's horse, Version, fell heading into the first turn of the opening heat on a muddy track, unseating Rosario. A second horse, Cape Fear, with jockey Steve Capeles aboard, also went down.

Track medical personnel checked Rosario, who was later transported to a local hospital for additional treatment. Capeles continued to ride. The track veterinarian euthanized both Version and Cape Fear after examination.

The race was declared a non-contest. All wagers were refunded as a result.

Hit by snow earlier in the day, the track condition had worsened to "frozen" by the third race.

Live racing is scheduled to resume at Hoosier Thursday. First post time is 6:10 p.m.

Earlier Wednesday, racing was also canceled after three races at Hawthorne Race Course due to snow storms. Racing is scheduled to resume Thursday as well at 1:10 p.m.
