Owner Robert D. Bone became the first owner in 66 years of racing at Hollywood Park to win four races on a single program Wednesday.
Bone, a 42-year-old who resides in Shingle Springs and owns four car dealerships in the Sacramento area, accomplished the feat with two trainers and three jockeys. He started five horses Wednesday. His lone miss came when second choice Sumthinbad finished in a dead heat for second in the eighth race finale.
"This is just a Wednesday for everyone else, but it's like Christmas for me," Bone said. "When I saw the entries for today – our post position draw and everything – it was Christmas Eve. Now it is Christmas."
Trainer Jeff Mullins saddled three of Bone's winners, combining with jockey Alex Solis to win the first race with Complicit Swiss ($3.40) and the fourth race with Ultimate Summer ($2.80). Mike Puype saddled Hopingandwishing ($4.40) to win the fifth race with Kerwin John up. Mullins sent out Notnerasgoodashers ($11.20) to win the sixth race under Corey Nakatani.
Bone, who is aiming to become the first owner to lead each of the six Southern California meetings in wins in a single year, leads the autumn meet standings with five wins through six racing days.
He had won four races in a day previously, but not at the same track. Allen Drumheller Sr. holds the trainers' record for most wins on one program with five in 1955.
J.C. Williams set the national record of seven wins on a single program at Waterford Park in West Virginia in 1979.
