Stakes Producer Quarrel Dead at 28

Pensioned broodmare Quarrel, whose first five foals were either stakes winners or stakes-placed, succumbed March 6 to the effects of old age. She had spent the last several years at Alfred Nuckols' Hurstland Farm near Midway, Ky.

Bred in Kentucky by Millard Waldheim's Bwamazon Farm, Quarrel (Raise a Native -- Rhubarb, by Barbizon) won five races and earned $68,847. She hit paydirt with her first foal, Lets Don't Fight, who won the 1981 Arlington-Washington Futurity (gr. I) and earned a career total of $404,588. After that came grade II stakes-placed Quarrel Over, then stakes winners Fight Over, Fuzzy, and Wise Counsellor. Fight Over and Fuzzy were graded stakes winners, and Wise Counsellor was a group winner in Ireland.

Quarrel Over also proved herself in the broodmare ranks. She is the dam of grade II winner Suivi and stakes-placed Have It Out, both of whom are stakes-producers.

Quarrel, whom Waldheim sold in foal to Seattle Slew to Allen Paulson at the 1987 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky November mixed sale, produced 17 foals. Her last foal is a Marlin yearling filly.
