Starcraft, a group I winner in both hemispheres, will stand the 2006 Northern Hemisphere season at David and Patricia Thompson's Cheveley Park Stud near Newmarket, England. It had previously been announced he would stand in the Southern Hemisphere at Arrowfield Stud, which purchased an interest in him. His fee at Cheveley Park will be 10,000 pounds (about $17,500).
The 5-year-old horse, by Soviet Star out of the Pompeii Court mare Flying Floozie, was bred in New Zealand and is a group I winner in Australia and New Zealand. He was the champion 3-year-old colt in Australia in 2003.
This year, Starcraft shipped to England for owner Paul Makin and partners and with trainer Luca Cumani won two important mile races in Europe -- the Prix du Moulin (Fr-I) and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (Eng-I). He was then sent to the United States and contested the Breeders' Cup Classic – Powered by Dodge (gr. I) and in his first start on dirt after 21 grass races, finished seventh.
He won five group I races in all and retired with earnings of $2,330,958. He was trained in the Southern Hemisphere by Newham Garry.
