Colts by Bertrando and Cherokee Run turned in the fastest workouts on March 5 at the under tack show for the Barretts March select sale of 2-year-olds in training in Southern California. The Bertrando colt, who is named Ashen, covered an eighth of a mile in :10.1, and the Cherokee Run colt breezed a quarter mile in :21.9.

Produced from the stakes-winning Septieme Ciel mare St. Helens Shadow, Ashen is consigned to the auction by Sequel Bloodstock. He was purchased by Sequel's Becky Thomas for $175,000 at last year's Del Mar yearling sale. Produced from the stakes-winning Bolger mare Choobloo, the Cherokee Run colt is consigned to the Barretts auction by Maurice Miller. The colt was purchased by Miller from Dromoland/Hartwell, agents, at the 2000 Saratoga yearling sale for $360,000.

The Barretts auction is scheduled for March 13 at the Hinds Pavilion at Fairplex Park. The second under tack show will be held on March 11.
