Mundy, 46, resigned last October as general manager and resident veterinarian of John Sikura's Hill 'n' Dale Farm near Lexington after serving in that capacity since November 1997. "John had just purchased the farm, and we went from a one-person office to a large operation," Mundy said. "I put systems in place and took care of the horses and people. It was a very good experience for me, because I sometimes wore 10 different hats a day. It rounded out the business aspect for me."

A native of Canada and graduate of the University of Guelph Ontario Veterinary College, Mundy first came to Kentucky in 1983 and worked as associate resident veterinarian for Nelson Bunker Hunt's Bluegrass Farm, leaving just prior to Hunt's January 1988 dispersal. Hunt won three Eclipse Awards as North America's outstanding breeder, in 1976, '85, and '87.

After practicing on his own with an emphasis on equine nutrition, Mundy worked as chief veterinarian for the Kentucky Racing Commission from 1990-97. During his tenure there, Mundy developed the concept and has been a member of a veterinary panel that oversees the condition of horses as they train up to racing's highest-profile events, the Triple Crown and Breeders' Cup. The proposal came out of a task force created by Breeders' Cup officials to examine a series of catastrophic injuries that occurred in the Breeders' Cup Sprint in the late 1980s and early '90s.

Mundy called himself an "augmentation" to the existing Adena Springs staff. "It's a very good team in place, very professional," he said. He will oversee day-to-day operations of the Midway, Ky., farm while Stronach builds a new Adena Springs near Paris on 1,050 acres formerly used for cattle ranching. An additional 950 acres nearby is under contract.

Hall came to Adena Springs from another Eclipse Award-winning breeding operation, North Ridge Farm (part of which eventually was purchased by Sikura for Hill 'n' Dale). He worked there for nearly 10 years, leaving in 1989, one year before Franklin and Carolyn Groves sold the farm and the horses that helped produce their Eclipse Award as outstanding breeders of 1989.

"This isn't a shakeup," Hall said of his departure as Adena Springs manager. "Everybody's happy. It's something that's been in the back of my mind for a long time. I sat down and talked with Frank and he was very supportive."

For the last three years, Hall has been partners with four Adena Springs associates -- Jack Brothers, Mark Roberts, Danny Vella, and Sergio de Sousa -- in 585-acre Hidden Brook Farm near Paris, Ky. The farm offers boarding, sales consignments, and bloodstock services "We're going to try and grow that business," he said.
