Saint Liam to Start Stallion Career at $50,000

Saint Liam, a leading contender for Horse of the Year after winning the Breeders' Cup Classic – Powered by Dodge (gr. I), will begin his stallion career for $50,000 live foal. The 5-year-old son of Saint Ballado will spend a week or so with trainer Richard Dutrow Jr. in New York before heading to William S. Farish's Lane's End Farm near Versailles, Ky. Saint Liam, a Halo grandson, will stand for a syndicate managed by Lane's End.
Saint Liam figures to prove popular among breeders looking for a male-line alternative to Northern Dancer and Mr. Prospector. "He's basically an outcross," Farish said.
Northern Dancer and Mr. Prospector appear in Saint Liam's pedigree, but only in the third generation of Saint Liam's dam, Quiet Dance (by Quiet American).
Bred by Edward P. Evans, Saint Liam raced for William K. Warren Jr. and his wife, Suzanne. The couple has maintained an interest in Saint Liam.
