Wimbledon, winner of last year's Louisiana Derby (gr. II), has been retired for stallion duty at Clarence Scharbauer Jr.'s Valor Farm near Pilot Point, Texas.

A $425,000 Fasig Tipton Florida 2-year-old, Wimbledon won the Louisiana Derby over Borrego and Pollard's Vision. The son of Wild Rush was a solid contender for the Kentucky Derby (gr. I) but was scratched the day before the race because of an injury.

Bred by Sabine Stables, Wimbledon won or placed in seven of 11 races and earned $443,818 racing for James McIngvale. His dam, Strawberry Clover (by Darn That Alarm) earned $121,643, and is a half-sister to New York graded winner Mining Burrah. Four-year-old Wimbledon will stand for Scharbauer at a $4,000 fee.
