No Breeders' Cup for Roman Ruler.
The recent rash of injuries and withdrawals from the Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships continued Sunday when Fog City Stable's Roman Ruler was declared out of the TVG Sprint (gr. I) with an injury to his right front foot.
The son of
Fusaichi Pegasus has been plagued with quarter cracks this year, which prevented the colt from competing in the Triple Crown.
"We took him out today and he was lame in his right front foot," trainer Bob Baffert said. "It's not a quarter crack, but something is brewing in his heel. We've been soaking it, but when they're that sore you can't do anything for four days, so he won't be able to make the Breeders' Cup."
Baffert has something planned that he hopes will remedy the disappointment of losing Roman Ruler for the Breeders' Cup.
"I had seen "Dreamer" and loved it, and I'm going to see it again so I can pump myself back up for the Breeders' Cup," he said.
Baffert still has Diamond Omi, who will be shipping to Belmont for the Alberto VO5 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I).
