Calder Race Course will not be open Oct. 24 due to a warning in effect for South Florida, which is expecting Hurricane Wilma to approach the southwest corner of the peninsula early Monday morning.
Calder President Ken Dunn announced the decision Sunday. The track will be closed for live racing and simulcasting. Both the main track and training track will be closed for exercising as well. Maintenance teams and horsemen are preparing the stable area for the storm, currently a category 2. It is forecast to cross the state and could affect the Miami area.
The original nine-race program carded for Monday will be run on Friday and the racing office is taking entries today for two additional races for that afternoon to create an 11-race card. Calder will also add two live races to Saturday's program, resulting in a 12-race live card.
As of Sunday morning, the track plans to be open for simulcasting on Tuesday and Wednesday. There is no live racing scheduled for those days.
