Beautiful Pleasure, with Jorge Chavez in the irons, wins the Personal Ensign Handicap (gr. I) at Saratoga. Heritage of Gold is in the background.
Owner John Oxley and trainer John Ward are still discussing whether to race or retire Beautiful Pleasure. In mid-February, Oxley said March 1 was decision day, but recently he said another discussion is slated for March 8.
Beautiful Pleasure is currently in training at Palm Beach Downs with John and Donna Ward. She worked five furlongs in 1:01.20 on Feb. 28, and is scheduled to work again the week of March 5. Presumably a final decision could come shortly thereafter.
In 1999 Beautiful Pleasure won three grade I races, including the Breeders' Cup Distaff, and earned an Eclipse as that year's champion older mare. Last year she captured the grade I Hempstead and Personal Ensign Handicaps. She has not raced since finishing sixth in the 2000 Breeders' Cup Distaff in November.
