Albany Conference Focuses on Reforms

The racing and gaming law program of the Albany Law School's Government Law Center will host a New York racing industry working group conference on Nov. 15 at the Albany Law School.

The conference, which will bring together the state's leading horseracing figures to discuss a number of key racing issues, will be sponsored by Friends of New York Racing Inc.

"The purpose of the conference is to bring together a diverse sector of the state's racing industry to develop a consensus on proposed 2006 reform racing legislation," said Bennett M. Liebman, coordinator of the Racing and Gaming Law Program.

In March of 2005, the Government Law Center of Albany Law School was awarded a grant by FNYR to develop the proposed legislation. A supplemental grant by FNYR will make the Industry Working Group Conference possible.

Conference participants will be selected by the racing and gaming law program. Executives from the state's Thoroughbred and harness tracks, regional off-track betting corporations, breeding and owner organizations, and the key government committees involved in reforming racing in New York will be included. In addition to the active participants, a technical committee will be chosen to help assist the panelists throughout the day.
