J. Paul Reddam's Ann Summers Gold, a group III-placed 2-year-old filly, has been dealt a setback and will be scratched from the Alberto VO5 Juvenile Fillies (gr. I).
Breeders' Cup officials received a fax Friday morning from the International Racing Bureau stating that Ann Summers Gold "has gone wrong" and would not ship to Belmont Park for the Oct. 29 World Thoroughbred Championship races.
The fax noted that trainer Brian Meehan was "very upset" with the development and did not provide additional details.
A 2-year-old daughter of
Yankee Victor bred in Kentucky by Brereton C. Jones, Ann Summers Gold had finished third in her career debut and placed second in a group III race at Newbury.
The defection is the second in the Juvenile Fillies, with Dressed to Kill withdrawn Thursday after sustaining an injury.
