Virginia Breeder/Owner Hilde Shapiro Dead

Hilde Shapiro, a Virginia breeder/owner, died Oct. 11 in Fredericksburg, Va. She was 73.
Shapiro owned Hiljo Farm near Goldvein, Va., and raced in the Hiljo name. The name came from the first letters in her name and her late husband's name, Joseph. She was involved in racing for 47 years and campaigned her runners mostly in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.
