Rested Jacqui's Promise Takes Shot in Violet

Jacqui's Promise, making her second start since June, has an opportunity to upset the field in Friday night's overfilled Violet Stakes (gr. IIIT) for fillies and mares on the Meadowlands turf course.

A field of 14 was entered in the 1 1/16-mile test with three others set to run in the event that the race is moved to the main track.

"We're hoping the break really helped her," said Jacqui's Promise's trainer Jim Ryerson from his Monmouth Park base. "We're going to give it a shot and hope that she returns to the form she showed earlier this season."

That earlier form included a win at Gulfstream in February and a runner-up performance in an allowance event at Keeneland.

"She was going real well earlier this year," Ryerson said. "After the Politely (Monmouth Park, June 12) we decided to give her a little time off. This will be her second start since that time off and hopefully it will have done her some good."

The 5-year-old Jacqui's Promise carries 117 pounds and drew post position 13 with Alan Garcia aboard.

From 24 lifetime starts, Jacqui's Promise has a record of 6-3-1 with five of those six wins coming on turf. The daughter of Loup Sauvage from the Carson City mare Lady Carson has earned $178,452 for owner Double H Stable.

Delta Princess, Brunilda, Path of Thunder, Smart N Classy, Fortunate Damsel and Snowdrops are among the main challengers.
