Dance With Ravens to Northview in Maryland

Dance With Ravens, a Sovereign Award finalist from the family of prominent sire Smart Strike  , has been retired from racing and will stand at Northview Stallion Station near Chesapeake City, Md. The 3-year-old son of A.P. Indy will stand for $7,500.

A homebred for the Samuel family's Sam-Son Farm, Dance With Ravens won the Grey Breeders' Cup Stakes (Can-II) and ran second in the Summer Stakes (Can-IIT) the year he was a finalist for 2004 champion 2-year-old male. He started off his 3-year-old season with two wins, including a score in the Plate Trial Stakes at Woodbine, then finished a puzzling seventh in the Queen's Plate Stakes. Two of his half-siblings. Scatter the Gold and the filly Dancethruthedawn, had won Canada's greatest classic, as did their dam, Dance Smartly (by Danzig), on her way to a Triple Crown sweep. It was later was discovered that Dance With Ravens suffered from a chip on his right front ankle. He underwent surgery and never started again, retiring with three wins from seven starts and earnings of $340,600 for trainer Mark Frostad.

Dance Smartly, who was an Eclipse Award winner and Canada's Horse of the Year, is a half-sister to Smart Strike and two other stakes winners.

In other Northview stud news, the farm has decided to keep Not For Love   and Two Punch at $25,000 in 2006. Northview, owned by Allaire du Pont, Dr. Tom Bowman, and Richard Golden, also announced fees of $5,000 for Domestic Dispute  , Lion Hearted  , and Waquoit; $3,500 for Deputy Storm, Great Notion  , Partner's Hero, and Polish Miner; and $2,500 for Crowd Pleaser.
