Doug Arnold's Buck Pond Farm will hold a broodmare and weanling sale Oct. 23 at 5 p.m.
The auction of 38 mares and 18 foals will be held under a tent at Buck Pond, located near Versailles, Ky. It will be preceded by a stallion show. There will be no X-rays provided of any horses, Arnold said, adding that some of the lots will have reserve prices. The mares are all owned by Arnold, a few in partnership.
All of the in-foal mares are being sold in foal to a Buck Pond stallion and with a 2006 season to a Buck Pond stallion.
"We've done a lot of work recently at the farm, putting up new fencing and building a new barn," Arnold said. "This is a way to show off your farm and also showcase your stallions. This is a different way to reach people.
"I was going to breed these mares another year and put them in a sale in foal to my stallions. I just thought here was an opportunity to let someone else breed to my stallions."
Arnold said the Adena Springs sales influenced his decision to have a sale of just his stock. "I've bought mares at that sale every year and done well with them," he said.
Keith Babb will act as auctioneer.
