Poor Little Sister, a weanling filly being sold to benefit the Little Sisters of the Poor religious order in Albany, New York, brought a final bid of $8,000 from Mike McMahon of McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds at Sunday's New York Breeders' Sales Company's auction at Saratoga Racecourse.

Susan and Andy Beadnell, owners of Ridin-Hy, a dude ranch and resort in Warrensburg, donated the filly to the nuns. In addition to the purchase price, the Little Sisters of the Poor will also receive 20% of the New York-bred filly's earnings.

According to the Albany Times-Union, the 13 sisters hope to use the $8,000 their filly fetched to update the elevators at Our Lady of Hope, a retirement home they operate in Latham.

"We'll train her and race her at Saratoga," Mike McMahon told the Times-Union. "Hopefully, she'll win."
