Consider Thesource Pulls Calder Shocker
Rustlewood Farm's Consider Thesource came flying down the middle of the track at odds of 52-1 to overtake frontrunner Stolen Prayer to win the $400,000 My Dear Girl Division of the Florida Stallion Stakes by 1 ¾ lengths. The result deprived Running Lass of a sweep of the lucrative FSS series for 2-year-old fillies.Sebastian Madrid rode the Steve Standridge-trained daughter of Notebook, who covered the 1 1/16 miles over a track listed as "good" in 1:47.76. "I wasn't surprised at the price, but I knew she'd get the distance because she had gone two turns already," Standridge said. "That's the reason we were in here. Plus, we thought the favorites would be questionable regarding (the distance)."Consider Thesource, who could have been claimed for $25,000 as recently as Aug. 28, earned $240,000 for the win, her second in four starts for George and Karen Russell's Rustlewood Farm. She paid $106.20, $32.40, and $18.80."I think we were about ten lengths behind on the backside but, when I asked her to run, she fired big," Madrid said. "I believe she can be a nice horse because she will rate nicely and run long."Stolen Prayer ran second in the field of 10 juvenile fillies. It was another 2 ½ lengths back to third-place runner Siren Cove. Running Lass, who won the Desert Vixen and Susan Girl divisions of the series, was a non-factor throughout and beat only one horse.(Chart, Equibase)
