Forestry Colt Tops Midlantic Sale Opener

Texan Jim McIngvale went to $275,000 to acquire a Forestry   colt to top Monday's first session of the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Eastern fall yearling sale in Timonium, Maryland.

Consigned by Hopewell Farm as agent for Faywood Stables, the colt was produced from the grade I winner Catatonic, who is the dam of stakes winners Alynar and Dactylic. The colt was bred in Kentucky by Woodrow Marriott.

The sales company reported 212 horses were sold for a gross of $4,983,700. The session average of $23,508 represented a 6% gain over the comparable session one year ago when 264 horses averaged $22,170 from a gross of $5,853,000. Monday's median price decreased 10.4% to $10,750 from $12,000 last year. The 50 horses that did not attain their reserves represented 19% of the total through the ring, compared with a 20% RNA rate at last year's first session.

The session's second-highest price of $230,000 was paid by agent Buzz Chace for an Indian Charlie  --Caliente Lace colt consigned by Gainesway, agent.

The three-day sale continues Wednesday at 11 a.m. (ET).
