Retired Jockeys Pincay and McCarron to be Guests of Honor at NTRA Annual Meeting

Hall of Fame jockeys Laffit Pincay, Jr., and Chris McCarron will be the featured dinner guests at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington Oct.11 when the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) hosts a dinner to conclude day two of the its 2005 Annual Meeting and Marketing Summit.

Pincay, the world's winningest jockey with 9,530 victories in a career that spanned nearly four decades, is the subject of a new documentary film, "Laffit, All About Winning," which chronicles the inspirational story behind the career of one of the greatest and most courageous athletes of all time. The film was produced and directed by Academy Award winner Jim Wilson and is narrated by Kevin Costner. Wilson and Costner also collaborated on "Dances With Wolves," which was 1991 Academy Award winner for Best Picture.

McCarron registered 7,141 victories -- sixth all-time -- in his illustrious career, and he is Thoroughbred racing's leading jockey in history by purse money won, with his mounts having garnered more than $264 million. He recently relocated to the Lexington area, where he plans to open the North American Racing Academy, a riding school that will be the first of its kind in the U.S. and mirror the many successful riding schools in existence in other countries.

Representatives from some 75 tracks, racing organizations, and other companies are expected to attend the three-day gathering at the Marriott Griffin Gate in Lexington. The conference begins Oct. 10 and continues through Oct. 12. It will include updates, analyses, and reports from industry marketing executives as well as outside marketing professionals; workshops on marketing and group purchasing; a Q&A period with NTRA Commissioner D.G. Van Clief, Jr.; a two-hour round table panel discussion on product development; a sneak preview of the upcoming motion picture "Dreamer"; and an afternoon of racing at Keeneland.
