The 28th HTA Art Auction, which features Standardbred, Thoroughbred, sporting, and other equine art, will be held Oct. 1 beginning at 8:30 a.m. EDT at the Tattersalls sale arena in Lexington. Proceeds of the auction benefit the Harness Tracks of America College Scholarship Fund.
All artwork is on exhibit in the grandstand at The Red Mile in Lexington. The complete catalogue, featuring 200 pieces of art, is available online at www.harnesstracks.com or www.elegantequineart.com.
The auction features original contemporary art, including watercolors, oils, and bronzes by famed artists from all over the world; 40 Currier & Ives prints; a section of classics and classical interpretations of all breeds, including German porcelain, French crystal, English prints, and original bronzes by artists such as Isidore Bonheur and Pierre Lenordez; and a signed original charcoal and watercolor by George Ford Morris titled Baroness.
The Currier & Ives section features mostly large folios, many of them from 1850 and earlier, including the rare and hard to find Stars of the Trotting Track and A Brush for the Lead. Also included in the Currier & Ives section is the famed suite by Salvador Dali of American Trotting Horses Number 1 and American Trotting Horses Number 2.
The two lithographs, being sold as a set, are hand signed by the artist and in mint condition. All artwork will be sold framed.
Advance and telephone bidding will be accepted for the sale. Further information is available at the exhibit or by calling HTA at (520) 529-2525.
