Spaghetti Mouse Lights Tote in BC Derby

Spaghetti Mouse, the longest shot on the board at 41-to-1, romped to 3 1/2-length victory in Saturday's $288,330 British Columbia Derby (Can-III) at Hastings Park.

The 3-year-old British Columbia bred son of Archers Bay-Desert Mouse (by With Approval) earned $178,658 for owners Nick and Pauline Felicella. Spaghetti Mouse returned $85.60, $33.70, and $15.00.

Bull Ranch, the second-least favored horse in the field at 31-1, finished second, with another outsider, 16-1 Timeless Passion finishing third, six lengths behind the winner.

The longshot brigade set up some whopping payoffs: the $2 exacta paid $2,710.60, the $2 trifecta paid $22,191.80, and the $1 superfecta with the 2-1 favorite Alabama Rain finishing fourth, paid $16,607.30.

Gary Demorest trains Spaghetti Mouse, who was ridden to victory by David Wilson. The dark bay colt rallied four wide on the final turn to take the lead from Bull Ranch and Francisco Fuentes in upper stretch and drew away late while under a drive. Timeless Passion, Jake Barton aboard, was a neck better than the stretch-running Alabama Rain and Pedro Alvarado.

Yes He's A Pistol, Norm's Nephew, Alexandersrun, Lakeville Rush, Monashee, Zats It, and Hotenuforyoo completed the order.
