A cast of nine runners has been entered for Saturday's Robert F. Carey Memorial Handicap (gr. IIIT) at Hawthorne Race Course. Fort Prado, winner of the Sea O Erin Breeders' Cup Mile Handicap, will line up as the 121-pound highweight.

Bred in Illinois by David P. Block, the 4-year-old gray or roan son of El Prado carries his sire's liking for the grass, four stakes wins, and earnings of $300,158 into the contest in his home state.

Out of the Fortunate Prospect mare Fort Pond, the colt races for Team Block under the care of trainer Chris Block. Prior to getting beat in the Play the King Handicap (Can-IIT) last month, Fort Prado reeled off four consecutive wins, including three Arlington Park stakes events.

A string of solid works at Arlington, and the return services of Eddie Razo Jr., aboard in all three stakes wins, should make Fort Prado one to be reckoned with in deep stretch with his off-the-pace style.

The pair will break from post six.

Getting one pound from Fort Prado and breaking to his immediate right is Richard, Bertram, and Elaine Klein's multiple stakes-winning G P Fleet.

A winner last year in Churchill's River City Handicap (gr. IIIT), the son of Northern Afleet   scored over the winter in the Fair Grounds Breeders' Cup Handicap and has posted some impressive works of late for trainer Steve Flint.

Out of the Spectacular Bid mare Come on Bid, the 5-year-old gelding has earned in excess of $500,000 in his 29 career starts and has nine wins from 18 starts.

G P Fleet was bred in Florida by George Parrish and will have the services of Jesus Castanon. Though the gelding has shown the ability to rate, he has been out front early in most of his winning efforts.

Spruce Run, Remind, Gondolieri, Old Deuteronomy, Major Rhythm, Wimplestilskin, and Just See James make up the rest of the group from the rail out.
