Lavin Foundation Donates $2M for Relief, Rebuild

Edited press release

The Family Foundation of Leonard and Bernice Lavin, owners of Glen Hill Farm in Ocala, Fla., has donated $1 million to the American Red Cross to aid New Orleans evacuees from Hurricane Katrina, and $1 million to help rebuild Tulane University and the Tulane Medical Center, which suffered significant storm damage.

Carol Lavin Bernick made the announcement on behalf of her parents and herself. Bernick, who is chairman of Alberto-Culver Co., also said the company would contribute $100,000 to each group and send a significant quantity of personal-care products to relief centers.

The company's Sally Beauty unit will provide financial and material support to salon owners and other members of the beauty industry throughout the area whose homes and businesses were ravaged by Hurricane Katrina.

The Lavins founded Alberto-Culver, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. The company is a longtime Breeders' Cup sponsor.
