Illinois-bred filly Original Spin, who races in the colors of the Russell L. Reineman Stable Inc., rallied four-wide in the stretch to win the $147,000 Arlington-Washington Breeders' Cup Lassie (gr. III) by 4 ΒΌ lengths in her second career start.

In her added-money debut, Original Spin posted a stakes-record time of 1:35.93 for the mile. Jesse Campbell was aboard the Tony Mitchell-trained daughter of Distorted Humor   who is a full sister to stakes winner Humor At Last.

Campbell kept Original Spin behind horses on the backstretch as 15-1 longshot Gleaming Elegance led through a half-mile in 45.08 seconds while dueling with another 15-1 shot, Jazzy Okie.

The bay filly won a six-furlong maiden special weight race at Arlington Aug. 13 in her initial start.

"Since this filly won the first time, our concern was stretching her out and trying to get her to relax," Campbell said. "I've breezed her twice since she won, both times behind horses. The second work was a perfect work for her, the perfect setup for her. Going down the backside today, there were two sitting in front of me and I'm right behind them. That was the key to this race."

The Lassie score kept Original Spin's record perfect in two starts and the $90,000 winner's share boosted her bankroll to $106,200.

"I've had a little luck with Illinois-bred horses in open company," Mitchell said. "(The Alcibiades at) Keeneland certainly has to be a consideration and, if she does well down there, who knows, maybe (the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies at) Belmont."

Ex Caelis, the 11-10 choice ridden by Gary Stevens, was second in the nine-horse field, one length in front of Coolwind, who finished third. Jazzy Okie, American Diva, Meadow Skippin, Lampoon, Gleaming Elegance, and Dyna's Gold Legend completed the order of finish.

Original Spin paid $12, $5.40, and $3.60. Ex Caelis returned $3 and $2.60. Coolwind paid $3.40.
