Trainer Patrick Biancone, who will saddle likely $100,000 Kentucky Cup Juvenile (gr. III) favorite Stream Cat, says he's excited about running the colt on Turfway Park's Polytrack.
A field of nine was entered in the 12th running of the Kentucky Cup Juvenile, which is contested at 1 1/16 miles.
Stream Cat drew the rail. The 2-year-old son of Black Minnalouse broke his maiden in anything but conservative fashion, winning the With Anticipation Stakes at Saratoga by 1 1/2 lengths under jockey Gary Stevens.
Although that race was on grass, Biancone is confident his horse will take to the Turfway track. "I will not know for sure until they run the race," Biancone said. "But he is training well and I am excited to go down there and hopefully he will run his race." Stevens, a Hall of Fame jockey with five Kentucky Cup wins to his credit, again has the mount.
Stream Cat can join an illustrious group of runners that have used previous runnings of the Kentucky Cup Juvenile as a key early race. They include Tejano Run (1994), Editor's Note (1995), Boston Harbor (1996), Point Given (2000), and Vindication (2002).
Catcominatcha and Deputy G finished second and third, respectively, in the Ellis Juvenile at Ellis Park on Aug. 20. Deputy G already boasts a graded stakes win, the Bashford Manor (gr. III) at Churchill Downs for trainer David Pate. Both horses will be armed with new jockeys in the Kentucky Cup Juvenile and will attempt two turns for the first time. $100,000 Kentucky Cup Juvenile (gr. III), 2-year-olds, 1 1/16 miles
