Pirate's Bounty, one of California's top sires for a number of years, and Central Kentucky stallion Mt. Livermore reached milestones in February. Pirate's Bounty was represented by his 60th stakes winner when Jeweled Pirate won the $150,000 Pro Or Con Handicap at Santa Anita. It was the stallion's second stakes winner of the year, following Feverish, who won the Paseana Handicap at Santa Anita in January. Twenty-six-year-old Pirate's Bounty (Hoist the Flag -- Bad Seed, by Stevward) is pensioned at Martin and Pam Wygod's River Edge Farm near Buellton, Calif.
Mt. Livermore's 50th stakes winner, Hidden Assets, won the Shirley Jones Handicap (gr. III) at Gulfstream Park. His other 2001 stakes winner, Hoovergetthekeys, also is a graded winner. Twenty-year-old Mt. Livermore (Blushing Groom -- Flama Ardiente, by Crimson Satan) ranks third on the 2001 leading sire list by progeny earnings and has sired six millionaires. He stands at Graham J. Beck's Gainesway Farm near Lexington.
