Grade I Winner Sister Act Dead

Sister Act, a grade I winner, was euthanized Aug. 24 at Bill Casner and Kenny Troutt's WinStar Farm near Versailles, Ky., after foundering. Troutt's wife, Lisa, had bought Sister Act in foal to Deputy Minister for $1.4 million at the 2000 Keeneland November breeding stock sale from Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent.

Bred by sisters Kay A. Kitchen and Sally K. Cook, Sister Act raced for various owners during her career. She won the 1998 La Troienne Stakes (gr. III) at Churchill Downs for C. Harold Kitchen, father of the breeders, and Perry and Dwight Sutherland's Choctaw Racing Stable. She placed in that year's Churchill Downs Distaff (gr. II) and Cotillion (gr. II) Handicaps.

The following year while racing for Choctaw Racing and Duncan Taylor of Taylor Made, Sister Act won the Hempstead Handicap (gr. I) at Belmont Park and the Oaklawn Breeders' Cup Stakes. She ran second to champion Banshee Breeze in the Apple Blossom Handicap (gr. I) and also was runner-up in the Shuvee Handicap (gr. II).

Sister Act (Saint Ballado--La Ice Queen, by Icecapade) retired with seven wins from 13 starts and earnings of $579,394. Neither of her two foals of racing age have won. Her 2005 offspring, a Storm Cat filly bred by Racehorse Management, is at WinStar.
