Retired Rider Donald Lee West Dead

Retired jockey Donald Lee West, 74, died Sept. 4 in Apollo Beach, Fla.

West rode in Kentucky and New Orleans and became a blacksmith apprentice under the guidance of his father, John West, at Sunshine Park, now known as Tampa Bay Downs, in 1951.

His survivors include a son, David, and a daughter, Donna.
