Giant's Causeway colt sure to raise a few eyebrows among September buyers.
The select sessions of the Keeneland September yearling sale are a lot like the Keeneland July auction used to be, featuring many of the very best yearlings that consignors have to offer. Following are some of the horses in Monday's session that are attracting the attention of consignors and buyers:
Hip No. 28,
Lemon Drop Kid – Myth to Reality colt, consigned by Lane's End, agent.
This colt is a half-brother to European champions Divine Proportions and Whipper.
"He's just a beautiful colt," said Bill Farish, of Lane's End. "He's medium-sized, not overly big. He's the ideal size. He has a beautiful head and shoulder. I love him."
Hip No. 32,
Giant's Causeway – North East Dancer colt, consigned by Eaton Sales, agent.
This colt, which has a flashy question mark-shaped blaze, is a half-brother to grade II winner North East Bound.
"He's a square, athletic, correct colt," said Tom VanMeter, of Eaton Sales. "He's really nice, and it looks like the right two groups are getting on him."
Hip No. 42,
Pulpit -- Pratella colt, consigned by Belvedere Farm, agent.
This big colt is out of graded winner and is from the family of another graded winner, Terpsichorist.
"He's a good-sized horse, and he just stands over a lot of ground," said Marty Takacs, of Belvedere. "He's handled himself like a prince here. I think he's getting better day-by-day. He's gotten a lot of attention."
Hip No. 62,
Unbridled's Song – Roll Over Baby colt, consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent for ClassicStar.
This colt is a half-brother to grade III winner Roll Hennessy Roll and stakes winner Majorbigtimesheet. He also is a half-brother to added-money winner Value Plus. "This is the best-looking horse this mare has ever had," said Frank Taylor, of Taylor Made. "He's balanced; he's got it all."
Hip No. 64,
Storm Cat – Ruby Ransom filly. Consigned by Mill Ridge Sales, agent.
This filly is a half-sister to grade II winner Strut the Stage and English group III winner Sacred Song. She's also from the family of two-time Canadian Horse of the Year Chief Bearhart. "She's a very athletic, very correct filly with a lot of pedigree," said Bayne Welker, of Mill Ridge Sales. "She should make an exceptional racehorse, and she'll make somebody a lovely broodmare someday."
Hip No. 74,
Storm Cat – Serena's Song colt, consigned by Denali Stud, agent for Robert and Beverly Lewis.
He's a colt with a lot of muscle in his body and in his pedigree. He's out of a champion and is a full brother to English group I winner Sophisticat and grade II winner Grand Reward. He's also a half-brother to stakes winner Serena's Tune.
"He's really kind of surprised me," said Craig Bandoroff, of Denali. "He's always been nice, but I never could put him in that special category until the last 60 days; I've rarely seen a horse put it all together the way he has. I told Mr. Lewis the other day that he's trying to make believe that he's special. This guy looks like more like the mare than anything she has ever had."
Hip No. 84, Mr. Greeley – Silver Swan filly, consigned by Hill 'n' Dale Sales Agency, agent for Liberation Farm, Needham-Betz Thoroughbreds, and partners.
This filly is athletic, but also feminine-looking. She has a pedigree that would make just about any breeder drool. She is a full sister to successful young sire
El Corredor , and she's a half-sister to graded winners Roman Ruler (by
Fusaichi Pegasus ) and Silver Tornado (by
Maria's Mon).
Hip No. 85,

Hip No. 121, Broad Brush – Unbridled Lassie filly, consigned by Lane's End, agent.
This filly is from the family of European champion Wolfhound.
"She's a nice, well-grown filly," said Bill Farish, of Lane's End. "Broad Brush isn't known for getting the best-looking individuals, but I think she is an exception to that."
Hip No. 136,
Storm Cat – Ajina colt. Consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent.
This colt is out of a champion and his relatives also include European champion Highest Trump.

Hip No. 152,
Kingmambo – Balistroika filly, consigned by Eaton Sales, agent.
This filly is a full sister to European champion Russian Rhythm.
"She's a little bit different type of filly than Russian Rhythm, but she's still nice," said Tom VanMeter, of Eaton Sales.
Hip No. 205,
Kingmambo – Escena filly, consigned by Denali Stud, agent for Falls Creek Farm.
She's a flashy filly with four white feet and a nearly black coat out of a champion mare. "She's got the conformation; she's got the pedigree; she's got the class," said Craig Bandoroff, of Denali. "She's the kind that doesn't come along very often. I can't fault her.
"At the top end of the business, a horse has to keep climbing the ladder. Ever since the spring, every month, she matured and she headed the right way. They don't all do that."
Bandoroff said to also keep an eye on Hip No. 15, a Giant's Causeway – Million Stories yearling, owned by Jane Schosberg, "because she's very classy, very pretty filly." She sold for $385,000 as a weanling.
Hip No. 216,
Fusaichi Pegasus -- Fineza colt, consigned by Stone Farm, agent for Stone Farm and Stonerside Stable.
This colt is a half-brother to Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) winner Keeper Hill and to grade II winner Golden Gear (by
Gulch). He's so strong-looking that Stone Farm's Arthur B. Hancock III has nicknamed him "Brick House."
"He looks like Captain Marvel or Superman," Hancock said.
Hip No. 217, Sadler's Wells – Fire the Groom colt, consigned by Denali Stud, agent.
Out of a champion in Europe, this colt is a half-brother to European champion and successful sire Stravinsky.
"He's a very nice horse, correct, a good mover," said Craig Bandoroff, of Denali Stud. "He's not a big horse. He kind of looks like his pedigree. She (his dam) is a Blushing Groom mare. I'd be surprised if he didn't go over well."

Awesome Again -- Summit Park colt and Hip No. 234, a
