Honorable Man Rallies to Win Charles Hadry

Eric and Albert Wirth's Honorable Man stormed past the field to win the $83,500 Charles H. Hadry Stakes Saturday at Laurel Park.

Under jockey Steve Hamilton, Honorable Man tracked the pacesetters from far off the pace in this one-mile test on the main track. Turned loose by Hamilton entering the far turn, the 6-year-old son of Honor Grades charged five-wide around the field, flew by front-running Saay Mi Name under brisk urging a furlong from the finish, and drew away to win by 3 1/4 lengths in 1:36.77.

Honorable Man paid $12.60, $6.80, and $3.80. The gelding topped an $86 exacta and a $446 trifecta.

Trainer Ron Cartwright said Honorable Man suffered a slab fracture of his right knee when he was a 3YO.

"We took care of it and didn't run him too frequently," he said. "He comes running when we ask him. He's a very adaptable horse."

Runner-up Saay Mi Name ($7, $4.40) took the Chesapeake Stakes at Colonial Downs (beating Abbondanza) and wheeled right back to win the Hockessin at Delaware Park. Both races were contested at six furlongs.

Cherokee's Boy ($3.40), who had pushed the pace throughout, could neither catch the pacesetter nor resist the winner and drifted home third. Favorite Unforgettable Max finished fourth.
