A Seattle Slew colt produced from the grade I winner Chic Shirine was purchased by Irish agent Demi O'Byrne for $1-million as the top priced offering during the early portion of Tuesday's Fasig-Tipton Florida selected 2-year-olds in training sale at Calder Racecourse.

O'Byrne said the colt had the best pedigree of the offerings in the sale and had a nice workout during the under tack show, getting an eighth of a mile in 10 3/5 seconds. O'Byrne said the colt will be trained by Patrick Biancone for John Magnier and Michael Tabor.

The transaction represented a successful pinhook for agent M. W. Miller III, who had purchased the colt for $400,000 from the Middlebrook Farm consignment to last year's Keeneland September yearling sale.

Chic Shirine, a daughter of Mr. Prospector whose victories included the Ashland Stakes (gr. I), is a full sister to champion and stakes producer Queena. In addition to the $1-million Slew colt, Chic Shirine has produced grade II winners Waldoboro and Tara Roma.

O'Byrne also purchased the early second-highest priced horse, going to $925,000 for a French Deputy--Blue Avenue (by Classic Go Go) filly consigned by Crupis New Castle Farm. Produced from a stakes winning half-sister to multiple grade I winner Brought to Mind, the filly had been purchased by New Castle Farm for $100,000 from the consignment of Eaton Sales, agent for J. Parisi, to last year's Fasig-Tipton New York August yearling sale.
