Clement L. Hirsch Handicap (gr. II) winner Tucked Away, who appeared on the way to recovery following surgery, was euthanized Sunday due to complications developing from the surgery.

Tucked Away suffered fractured sesamoids in her right foreleg during an Aug. 31 workout for trainer Patrick Gallagher. The California-bred 5-year-old daughter of Unusual Heat underwent successful surgery to fuse the joints on Thursday at San Luis Rey Equine Hospital at Bonsall, but later developed hind end problems and foundered.

In the biggest victory of her career, Tucked Away, ridden by Alex Solis, nipped a surging Hollywood Story by a nose in the Hirsch, earning $180,000 for owner Nico Nierenberg. Tucked Away had five wins, seven seconds and five thirds in 29 lifetime starts and earnings of $582,956.
