Due to the unsafe race conditions caused by more than five inches of rain overnight in Shakopee, Minn., Canterbury Park management decided to cancel its races on Sunday afternoon.

Jockey Scott Stevens took the microphone in the paddock around 1:30 p.m. to announce the decision to the nearly 5,000 fans already on track. Many of the Canterbury jockeys stayed around to sign autographs and mingle with the patrons well into the afternoon.

"Fan Appreciation Day" will now be celebrated on closing day Monday, with free admission and free gifts for the race fans; first post will be 1:30 p.m.

Highlighting Monday's card will be a pair of $40,000 stakes – the Shakopee Stakes for fillies and the Minneapolis Stakes for colts.
