Mass Media (7) pulls ahead of Battle Won to win the Forego Stakes.
Sent off at 14-1 odds, surprising Mass Media wore down Battle Won in the stretch to post a game victory in Saturday's grade I Forego Stakes at Saratoga.

Ridden by Javier Castellano for Hall of Famer Bobby Frankel, Mass Media was settled into the middle of the field as Yankee Mon and Battle Won contested the early pace in fractions of :22 1/4 and :44 4/5. Mass Media made his move rounding the turn in the seven furlong test and resolutely wore down the leaders.

Forest Danger, the 11-10 favorite in the six-horse field, finished fifth. The final time for seven furlongs was 1:22.59.

The winner paid $32.60, $13.00, and $5.50. Battle Won returned $5.70 and $4.10, and Silver Wagon was worth $4.00. Castellano was aboard five winners on the Saturday Saratoga card.

The victory was the third Forego triumph in a row for Frankel, who won with Aldebaran in 2003 and Midas Eyes in 2004.

"I thought he ran a very good race," said Frankel, by telephone from Del Mar. "He impressed me. Everything played in his favor. I think it helped him being on the outside so the dirt wouldn't get kicked in his face. We'll see how he comes out of this race and go from there."

Mass Media, a 4-year-old dark bay colt by Touch Gold   out of Sultry Allure (by Forty Niner), was bred in Kentucky by Live Oak Stud and purchased for $65,000 at the 2002 Keeneland September yearling sale.
