Champion State City to Stand at Buck Pond

State City, a millionaire and Dubai champion, will stand at Doug Arnold's Buck Pond Farm near Versailles, Ky., in 2006. Buck Pond bought a half-interest in State City, who is based in Australia and is gearing up for the Southern Hemisphere season at Alwyn Farm near Serpertine.

State City was Dubai's champion older sprinter in 2003 after winning the Dubai Golden Shaheen (UAE-I) and Jebel Ali Sprint. The previous year, he ran third in the U.A.E Two Thousand Guineas (UAE-III).

"Sons of Carson City have done well at stud, and State City is from the Lady Josephine family," Arnold said. "Stallions like Royal Charger and Nasrullah came from that family,"

Bred in Kentucky by Sheikh Mohammed's Darley Stud Management, State City also raced in the United States and England. He finished third to subsequent champion sprinter Aldebaran in the 2003 Tom Fool Handicap (gr. II) at Belmont Park while racing in the Godophin silks belonging to Sheikh Mohammed and his family.

State City retired with six wins from 17 starts and earnings of $1,375,993. He is out of the stakes-winning Nureyev mare Wajna, who is a half-sister to two graded stakes winners, including grade I winner Navarone. A fee will be announced later.
