(from Del Mar notes)Unbeaten Bully Bones, winner of the Sorrento (gr. III) earlier this month, heads a field of 11 2-year-old fillies entered for Saturday's $250,000 Del Mar Debutante (gr. I) at seven furlongs on the main track.
Trained by David La Croix and to be ridden by Rene Douglas, Bully Bones is one of three stakes winners in the field carrying high weight of 121 pounds. Indian Breeze, who won Hollywood Park's Landaluce Stakes before a sluggish eighth-place finish in the Sorrento, and River's Prayer, who won Hollywood's Cinderella Stakes before being beaten by Indian Breeze in the Landaluce, are the other two.
Bully Bones, a Forida-bred from Meadowbrook Farms Inc., broke her maiden from the rail in a 4 1/2-furlong debut at Hollywood Park April 23 at odds of 37-1. The chestnut daughter of Hesabull went to the sidelines after bucking her shins, returning in the Sorrento to upset Indian Breeze.
Slick Road, third in the Sorrento, also returns Saturday.
Indian Breeze, with Patrick Valenzuela in the irons, will break from the rail, and Bully Bones and River's Prayer, ridden by Victor Espinoza, will leave from the two outside posts.
The field includes an entry of Mystery Girl and Diplomat Lady, owned by Charles Cono and trained by Christopher Paasch.
Aside from the stakes winners, all others in the race are just maiden winners. Wild Fit will be making only her second lifetime start.
The winner will join an illustrious list of fillies, including last year's Sweet Catomine, who went on to win the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I) and the Eclipse Award as the year's top 2-year-old filly. Other imposing winners of the race include Excellent Meeting, Sharp Cat, Sardula, Lost Kitty, Brave Raj, Althea, Landaluce, Terlingua, Generous Portion and Impressive Style.
