Hollywood Gold Cup (gr. I) winner Lava Man and outstanding 3-year-old Surf Cat head a field of 12 assigned post positions Wednesday night for Sunday's 15th running of the $1 million Pacific Classic (gr. I). Lava Man, the 9-5 morning line favorite to be ridden by Patrick Valenzuela, drew post position 4, while Swaps Stakes (gr. II) winner Surf Cat (3-1), with Alex Solis scheduled to ride, was assigned the 5 post for the 1 1/4-mile race, signature event of the Del Mar racing season. Perfect Drift, the 4-1 third choice ridden by Mark Guidry, drew the exteme outside post position.Post time for the Pacific Classic will be 4:45 p.m. The field, in post-position order with morning-line odds, is as follows. 1--Polish Times – Kent Desormeaux – 50 2--Choctaw Nation -- Victor Espinoza – 6 3 -- Borrego – Garrett Gomez – 12 4 -- Lava Man – Patrick Valenzuela – 9/5 5 -- Surf Cat – Alex Solis – 3 6 -- Super Frolic – Jason Lumpkins – 30 7 -- Musique Toujours – Jorge Chavez -- 20 8 -- Congrats – Tyler Baze – 10 9 -- Island Fashion – Corey Nakatani – 20 10 -- Oceanus (Brz) – Jose Valdivia, Jr. – 30 11 -- Ace Blue (Brz) – David Flores – 30 12 -- Perfect Drift – Mark Guidry -- 4 All carry 124 pounds, except for the 3-year-old Surf Cat, who gets a seven-pound weight allowance, and the mare Island Fashion, who receiveds five pounds.
